New County Records and Additional Records for Amphibians and Reptiles in Virginia, USA

Over the past nearly two decades we have collected or have been provided dozens of records of amphibians and reptiles in Virginia. Of those, several are from species of greatest conservation need (SGCN) according to the 2015 Virginia Wildlife Action Plan, for which additional distribution information can be important. The remainder is either new county records, second county records which verify regular occurrence within the pertinent counties, or records that fill gaps within known distributions. The records herein have all been verified by John D. Kleopfer (Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries) or Paul Sattler (Liberty University). All records were geographically validated using the Virginia Fish and Wildlife Information Service (vafwis.dgif.virginia.gov; 6 July 2017), unless otherwise indicated. The GPS datum referenced is WGS 84 for all records. All specimen records have been accessioned in the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute Vertebrate Teaching Collection (SCBI). The living specimens that are reported herein were collected under the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries collection permits 34226 and 40757.
