摘要

NOW THAT WE HAVE ALL-PARTY AGREEMENT IN ALBERTA TO address climate change, we can vigorously pursue the balance between energy, environment and economy. The world's oil addiction isn't going away. Even though Alberta's oil sands have just a nominal impact on global climate change (0.15 per cent of global emissions of C02), we know we have a moral obligation to the future of the planet. Until we corral investments of billions of dollars in alternative and renewable energy sources, fossil fuels will dominate. Climate change is unstoppable, and irrevocable. Scientists believe that the effects of today's fossil fuel consumption will last centuries, and perhaps millennia. Let's start with a basic question: What is the moral justification for the production and consumption of fossil fuels?
