Bolivia’s Gas Sector Unaffected By Crisis

Bolivia has devolved into political chaos,with former President Evo Morales’ apparent efforts to steal an Oct.20 election in pursuit of a fourth tenn and his subsequent flight into exile setting off weeks of protest and violence.Yet so far,the countiy’s natural gas sector has been largely insulated from the unrest,with production mostly unaffected and pipeline exports to Brazil and Argentina continuing as normal.But that could still change,and the longer the situation remains unstable,concerns over Bolivia’s reliability as a gas supplier will only grow.The unrest also complicates the ongoing renegotiation of Bolivia’s gas export contract to Brazil,which is due to expire at year’s end.
