Qatar shook up the LNG world last week with its plans to hoist liquefaction capacity to around 100 million tons per year by the mid-2020s, leaving Australia and the US trailing in its wake (WGI Jul.5'17). The bombshell announcement from the world's lowest-cost LNG producer was short on detail, but the intent seems clear: To increase revenues, and kill or defer rival higher cost plans to plug the supply gap expected to open up next decade.
