Small US Developers Look to Nearby LNG Markets

Most big new LNG projects in the US look set to remain stuck at the starting gate for the foreseeable future (WGI May27'20). Aimed primarily at the main Asian and European markets, they remain paralyzed by a slew of problems that include excess LNG, the US-China trade war, concerns over US upstream supply, and difficulties finding buyers and financing. But some smaller US developers hope to make headway by targeting niche markets in the Caribbean that have begun switching to gas from heavy fuels such as diesel for their electricity generation needs, creating a growing and relatively nearby market for US-based LNG.
