Brazilian truck market soars as economic recovery builds momentum

Brazil -Truck sales in Brazil totalled 75,957 units in 2018, recording an increase of 46.8% over volumes registered the year before of 51,941 vehicles. The heavy-duty (gvw > 40t) truck and tractor unit sales, which accounts for around 45% of the truck market, rose by 85.5% to register 34,782 units in 2018 from 18,747, the year before. Mercedes-Benz and Volvo Trucks compete for sector leadership, with Mercedes-Benz pulling ahead of Volvo in 2018. Scania is the third brand that competes strongly in this sector; with all three recording strong increases in sales for the year, but never-the-less all three percentages increases were below the sector average. Notably Iveco MAN/VW and DAF all more than doubled their sales during 2018, with the latter, enjoying a rise in sales of 123% to register 2,343 trucks - another record year for DAF in Brazil.
