KENMARE: Healthy Post-Tax Profit for the Third Year in a Row

Kenmare's involvement in the mineral sands industry began with the acquisition of an exploration licence for mineral sands prospects in the Congolone/Angoche region of Nampula province in 1987. During the 1990s, the company generated cashflow and built up experience of mining in Mozambique as the operator of a large-flake crystalline graphite mine at Ancuabe (100 km west of Pemba and 480 km north of Moma). In fact, Kenmare was one of the world's leading producers of natural graphite, but it ceased production in 1999 due to high costs and the property reverted to the Government. In 2012, the Government auctioned the Ancuabe mine and awarded ownership to Graphit Kropfmuhl (of Germany, part of the Advanced Metallurgical Group NV, headquartered in Amsterdam).
