New Apprentice and Trainee Figures Show Growth in Non-Trade Occupations

Figures recently released by the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER), show the number of people starting an apprenticeship or traineeship is up 2.9% for the September 2016 quarter, compared with the previous year. The overall increase can be attributed to a 17% increase in non-trade commencements, where trade commencements however, decreased by 14%. This decrease was calculated across all states and territories although, the following individual states showed an increase over the 12month period: NSW (up 3.1%), NT (up 1%) and ACT (up 28.3%).
