Building a Violin

I know a number of very fine woodworkers whose skill is superior to mine but when 1 suggest that they could build a stringed instrument they snake their heads wistfully. They seem to think it is beyond them.There is a mystique about instruments, especially violins, that suggests that only wizards should attempt their construction. Thirty five years ago my wife gave me a book on how to build a bluegrass mandolin. Twenty functioning instruments and oodles ofpleasure later I wish to assure you that serviceable instruments can be built by any woodworker who is keen enough.
