The quote above is one of my favourites because it invokes, to my mind, a sense of freedom. There is something about Bonnett's words and indeed about fieldwork more generally that conjures up notions of exploration and adventure: ideas and motivations that helped to create the modern discipline of geography (Livingstone, 1992).
