BULGARIA-SUPPLY, TRANSFORMATION AND CONSUMPTION OF RENEWABLE ENERGIES OVER THE PERIOD 2007-2016

In recent years, there has been a significant increase in renewable energy in the EU. In particular, in recent years, the share of renewable energy in gross final energy consumption is 17.0% in 2016. As a whole, the EU is on track to meet its 2020 targets. Some Member States need to make additional efforts to meet their obligations with respect to total share of energy from renewable sources in gross final energy consumption. The main purpose of this analysis is to find a possible answer to the question: 'Where is Bulgaria's place in supply, transformation and consumption of renewable energies among the Member States of the European Union during the period 2007-2016?' Cluster analysis is a method of classifying objects that are designed to form natural groups based on multiple criteria. Its application for the purpose of this analysis is to classify 41 countries within the scope of the study into 5 cluster groups using 10 assessment criteria (supply, transformation and consumption of renewable energies, during 2007-2016. Under such defined conditions, the most suitable clustering method is the K-Means Cluster (k-means clustering). The analysis will be performed using IBM. SPSS Statistics Version 19. For the purpose of the analysis, data from Eurostat and the Bulgarian Statistical Institute were used.
