摘要

Background: Urinary tract infection(UTI) is a major public health concernin developing countries .Most UTIs are caused by E.coli, accounting for up to 90% of community acquired UTIs. Materials and methods: A total of 20 clinical isolates of uropathologicalE.coli(UPEC) were subjected for antibiotic sensitivity pattern and virulence assay such as hemolysin and gelatinase production. Results: 100% of our isolates were hemolysin producers, whereas none of the isolates were positive for gelatinase production. Conclusion: Hemolysin might play a crucial role in initiation of UTI in hospitalized individuals. Drug resistance can also be the factor for the treatment failure cases.
