Recently, demand to enhance the accuracy of rolling linear guides is increasing in response to remarkable improvements in the accuracy of machine tools and other manufacturing and inspection equipment in which linear guides are installed. Key factors adversely affecting the motion accuracy of linear guides are cyclic displacement of the ball slide due to ball passage and deflection of the rail caused by the tightening bolts. In this paper, we describe our research on these factors and present measures for improving the accuracy of linear guides.
