A coalition of states, cities and green groups is advancing a lawsuit arguing that the Trump administration is required to immediately start writing regulations to curb methane from existing wells, tanks and other gas-related equipment. It's unlikely a Republican administration would go down that path, as industry has long claimed that expanding methane caps from new to existing sources would be enormously expensive and unworkable. But the litigation tees up the issue for a potential Biden administration.
