The diameter of the ring workpiece is increased all the time in ring rolling. The measured generatrix contour has the dislocation when the ring workpiece is measured directly by the laser scanner. In order to realize the online detection of the generatrix contour for the ring workpiece, a dynamic position compensation method of the online laser detection system is proposed in this paper. Firstly, the data of the ring's radial cross-section is obtained by laser scanner in ring rolling. Then the data is denoised by Kalman time division multiplexed particle filter. Secondly, the curve fitting is executed on the denoised data. The position deviation of each radial cross-section position coordinate is calculated by fitted curve. Thirdly, the position coordinate of the ring's radial cross-section is compensated according to the position deviation. The dislocation of the generatrix contour is corrected. Finally, the feasibility of the method proposed is verified by experiments. (C) 2018 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
