LITHOPS 'OPALINA' IS STILL AT LARGE (AND PROBABLY ALWAYS WILL BE)

In a recent article Jainta et al. (2018) claimed to have 're-discovered' Lithops 'opalina'. This Lithops was originally found by Professor Kurt Dinter in 1923 and later described as a new species (Dinter 1927). Since the type locality of this 'new' species was not known and in the absence of type material, the taxon was synonymised with Lithops karasmontana subsp. karasmontana var. aiaisensis (Cole 1973) and is recognised as such today. We read Jainta et al. (2018) with great concern since we consider the information presented highly inaccurate and misleading. We therefore feel obliged to comment and we are presenting our findings with the aim of setting the record straight.
