Cellular adenosine triphosphate (ATP) release detection is of great significance due to its signaling function. A triple-enzyme microelectrode array ATP biosensor was developed by the co-immobilization of glucose oxidase, hexokinase and horseradish peroxidase. To increase the surface area, improve the sensitivity and lower the limit of detection, Lithops-like Pt nanorods based on Au spikes were fabricated for the detection of cellular ATP release. The proposed MEA integrated with the Lithops-like Pt nanorods can be used for real-time measurement of local ATP release from single cells. The results will contribute to the determination of other neurotransmitters and cell secretions at the single cell level.
