A miniaturized robotic system is used for holistic in-situ repair and maintenance in production lines. It has intelligence and autonomous abilities, which can be used for rapid maintenance at intricate or complex installations. Under the European Union initiative, 'Factories of the Future,' digitization of the factories has been considered one of the most important supporting factors. The main focus area for the research under this initiative is developing broad engineering models that are capable of cross-disciplinary information sharing, developing more intelligent simulation models having better predictive models, which will reduce the need for physical prototyping, developing collaborative design platforms, which are capable of adapting to the requirements of different sectors, and Intelligent product lifecycle management.
