One of the operations that is supported by vision-based systems is sorting. Visys is a Belgian company specializing in automated visual inspection for bulk sorting systems. Frank Zwerts, CEO of Visys, put together a group of engineers from the sorting business and founded the company in 2004. The company's target market is food sorting, where the main drivers include reduction of company headcount and quality consistency. According to Zwerts, the biggest technology challenges are the combination of signals to make an uncompromised sorting solution and programming shape recognition algorithms. A compromised solution means that if a system has a very good color sorting module then it needs to compromise on shape recognition. An uncompromised solution would afford both color sorting and shape recognition at a high level. Visys offers two product lines, Spyder and Lynx digital laser sorters, for high and medium capacity, respectively.
