Estonia-based solid oxide fuel cell manufacturer Elcogen has signed a Letter of Intent for a commercialisation agreement with Magnex Co Ltd, a Japanese SOFC stack and system developer, to cooperate on moving towards mass-market commercialisation of SOFC products. The three-year agreement follows more than seven years of close cooperation between the companies. Magnex is developing 1 kW stacks, 250 W portable systems, and 1-5 kW combined heat and power (CHP) systems fueled by biogas or ethanol. The company is targeting the Japanese and South Korean markets, taking advantage of the relatively low operating temperature of Elcogen's technology, which allows the use of low-cost materials and a cost-efficient system design. Magnex aims to sell more than 3000 units of its SOFC products in the next three years, representing a total of 5 MW of SOFC power generation.
