摘要

Like most things relating to the UK's departure from the EU, the question of what a hard Brexit would mean as far as the UK's fruit imports from non-EU countries like South Africa and Chile are concerned is not an easy one to answer. The UK governmenthas already announced that it has agreed in principle to roll over existing trade deals with Chile and South Africa, so it's possible that fruit markets will remain largely how they are. What we haven't heard, however, is under what terms they have negotiated those deals. South Africa and the Southern Africa Development Community were already concerned about market access, rules of origin, the mfn clauses, export taxes, sustainable development and agricultural safeguards. There was a lot for South Africa to negotiate.
