Since the turn of the century, the need to tackle carbon emissions to combat climate change has not always been the primary criterion forjudging the relative merits of power generation technologies. Yes, it was there, shoulder to shoulder with security of supply and affordability. Depending on whether we were experiencing weather shocks, power cuts or bill hikes, each facet of the trilemma took its turn to face the front, leaving policy makers to procrastinate rather than set priorities and act on them. Not any more though. Awareness of the need to cut carbon emissions has achieved what advertisers call cut-through: Extinction Rebellion has joined forces with national treasure David Attenborough's mainstream documentaries’influencing power, and then we have Greta Thunberg, the ghost of climate future, tweaking our consciences about the legacy we leave for our children.
