The Department of Labor (DOL) recently released its Strategic Plan for fiscal years 2011-2016. The non-binding plan offers employers, including ILMA members, valuable insight into the areas DOL intends to focus its regulatory and enforcement resources over the next five years. Employee misclassifications and "vulnerable workers" will be key efforts. Each federal department and agency is required to publish periodically such strategic plans. The DOL plan is noteworthy in that it makes a number of dramatic shifts in emphasis from prior strategic plans published by the Bush Administration.
