Weakening US fuel efciency regulations should increase domestic gasoline demand by more than 3pc and set the stage for stronger overall fuel demand for the next seven years, Marathon Petroleum chief executive Gary Heminger said on 5 September. The US refining industry expects to proft from increased distillate demand next year as the global marine feet moves to more expensive, lower-sulphur fuel. But investors had not fully considered a coinciding 350,000 b/d increase in US gaso- line demand relative to previous estimates beginning in 2021, Heminger told the Barclays CEO Energy-Power conference in New York.
