India restarts work on delayed Barmer refinery

India has restarted work on the long-delayed 180,000 b/d Barmer refinery in the desert state of Rajasthan, with the project now expected to be completed in four years. Work on the 431bn rupees ($6.8bn) refinery at Pachpadra in western India resumed after prime minister Narendra Modi re-inaugurated the project yesterday. The project was planned fve years ago and was initially scheduled to be completed this year, with the reasons for the delay unclear.
