The US rig count rose for a seventh straight week as oil majors join independent producers to revive investments in shale operations. The count total rose by two to 756, according to weekly data from Baker Hughes. It was the highest since the 20 No- vember 2015 number of 757. Oil-directed rigs rose by seven to 609, or 93pc higher than the 316 oil rigs at the downturn's low point in May 2016. Gas-directed rigs fell by fve to 146. The total has risen by 87pc from the end-May number of 404, the lowest in at least three decades.
