ILMA = Advocacy. Get Involved!

As I sit here at my desk and begin to write this article for Compoundings, I ponder what "association" and "advocacy" really mean. My basic definition of "association" is an organization of people who have a common interest. My basic definition of "advocacy" is the support and backing of the common interest by an individual or group. When I look at the above definitions, I see a great man and longtime ILMA member and advocate, Elmer Cleves. I was fortunate to call Elmer, who passed away last October, a friend and a colleague. Elmer gave his heart and soul to ILMA for the greater good and I am sure he is looking down with pride on the efforts that the ILMA staff and board of directors are putting forth in promoting advocacy for and by ILMA members. Over the past year, members attended the NAM "fly-in" on Capitol Hill and the board created the ILMA Advocacy Playbook. Both of these efforts improve the Association's advocacy capabilities and assist member companies.
