How can space policy advocates most effectively promote their positions and projects in this brave new world of continuous change, government cutbacks and commercial constraints? This paper will discuss the historical examples of others in similar situations such as the early US pro-space movement and Canadian political advocacy models developed in the 1980's. Our conclusions will show that, based on past experiences, successful advocacy in any specific area (and not just space) requires strong media skills to craft a compelling narrative leading to action; along with a mechanism to move the narrative of the advocacy forward from the initial situation through to the the creation of alternatives to ameliorate the original problem; and a broad based funding network to pay for those activities. We'll then take a look at the current landscape and make a few predictions about which advocacy groups, in Canada at least, will continue to function and/or grow over the next five years.
