Between': Hand Drawing Media Art Using Stereoscopic Movie

In this paper, stereoscopic media artwork generated by a new style of expression has been studied by combining the traditional painting technique and the 3D image technology. While, in traditional painting,space is represented by means of perspective, with the recently emerging 3D image technology,it can be achieved by giving the effect of binocular parallax to the audience. What these two techniques have in common is that they are used to extend the representation of a plane to a space through creating a sense of depth. In the present study,two separate videos were shot while the artist was drawing a stereoscopic image. One combined video was produced by editing the two videos in the stereoscopic video format. This paper explains the process of generating the media artwork through combining the painting technique and the stereoscopic video technology. Furthermore, this media artwork expresses the route to find a meaning between 2D and 3D through turning over the audience's stereotype by giving them the experience of gradually converting a plane image to a stereoscopic video.
