Letter in response to 'Identifying Lynch syndrome' by de la Chapelle et al.

We would like to respond to a letter in the September 15th issue of Int J Cancer commenting on our earlier Editorial in the Journal.1 The letter incorrectly states that we concluded that "patients over age 50 should not be screened for Lynch syndrome" and that we made a recommendation "to restrict routine testing to younger colorectal cases".2 We made no such statements. Our comment, "that this population-based study has provided evidence that molecular screening and genetic testing all colorectal tumors diagnosed before age 50 years will identify most Lynch syndrome cases'was based on an Australian study published in the same issue.
