摘要

Researchers at Brunel University in west London are developing a new generation of ultra-light car parts that will reduce fuel costs and carbon emissions. The three-year, £7.5m project is a joint initiative by the Brunel Centre for Advanced Solidification Technology (BCAST), Jaguar Land Rover and others. Liquid metal engineering experts from Brunel’s Advanced Metals Casting Centre (AMCC) and Advanced Metals Processing Centre (AMPC) will be engaged on the research work at the University’s Uxbridge campus. The aim is to perfect components for future Jaguar Land Rover vehicles: extremely light, thin-walled die-cast parts in aluminium are to be developed, with potential uses for shock absorption, chassis parts or door closures.
