摘要

There are approximately 1.2 billion cars on the roads around the world. People everywhere expect beautifully designed, comfortable and safe cars at a reasonable price. At the same time, the limited availability of fossil fuels and climate change call for more efficient cars and lower emissions. To meet these requirements, the automotive industry needs to continue to innovate. Modern vehicles are already heavily based on chemical products and solutions. BASF develops and supplies functional materials and solutions that enable vehicles to be built more efficiently and with a lower environmental impact. But chemistry is set to play an even greater role in the future as it contributes significantly to solving the mobility challenges ahead. The global light vehicle production is projected to increase to about 113 million units by 2025. BASF expects the chemical content of cars to increase further as a result of developments in automotive industry with regard to sustainability, electromobility, new interior concepts, safety and comfort.
