On eve of Commerce's final report, Grassley balks at potential auto tariffs

As a Commerce Department deadline for an auto imports investigation looms, the Senate Finance Committee's chairman said on Wednesday that tariffs on cars and parts are not "the right thing to do." The Commerce Department has until Feb. 17, as dictated by Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962, to submit a report to the White House on the national security implications of auto and auto parts imports - which could include recommendations for restrictions.
