摘要

The Economic Times, India, reports that Niti Aayog is planning desalination plants in the country‘s territorial waters or along its 7,800km coastline to address the growing water crisis. These plants, likely to run on solar or ocean energy, will supply the desalinated water via pipelines.A Niti Aayog report said that 21 major Indian cities could run out of water by 2020.Converting desalinated water into fresh water has been expensive, but countries like Israel and Australia have seen large-scale commercialisation.
