Aluminium demand is forecast to grow 4.5% from 63.8Mt in 2017 to 66.7Mt through 2018. A further 3.5% rise to 69.0Mt isforecast for 2019. Global aluminium demand will be concentrated in China for the foreseeable future, with its share ofglobal production expected to increase by 0.9 percentage points to 55.6% over the next two years. This is despite China’sManufacturing PMI retreating from 51.3% in August to 50.8% in September, with both production and new work ordergrowth slowing as the trade tension with US intensified.
