Shell has continued its rapid expansion in African frontier exploration acreage by taking over new a new block off South Africa. The European major has become that rarest of beasts in recent times - a large integrated oil company adding to exploration spending. Only two months ago its took the majority of Kosmos Energy's acreage off Namibia, Sao Tome & Principe and South Africa - most of which it already had a minor stake in as part of a strategic exploration alliance.
