Product and Process Performance Improvement of Candidate Physics Teachers by Implementation of an Integrated Learning Strategy

An integrated learning strategy is a combination of project-based learning (PjBL) and problem-based learning (PBL). PjBL is intended to improve the product performance of candidate physics teachers, while PBL is intended to improve their process performance. The objective of this studyis to test the implementation of an integrated learning strategy in relation to improving the products and processes of physics teacher candidates. The study included 40 student teachers attending physics courses at the Physics Laboratory in the Department of Physics at Universitas NegeriSurabaya, during one semester of the 2015 academic year. The students attended two courses that were each two months long with regular learning and integrated learning strategies. We found that the performance of the teacher candidates was better with the integrated learning strategy thanwith regular learning. We propose that an integrated learning strategy is needed to improve the product and process performance of candidate physics teachers.
