Study of Universal Design Principles on Old City Open Space Elements

摘要

Urban environment are developing along with technology innovation, humanism ethics and globalization. Open space is part of the urban environment. People have rights to access the open space everyday with their vary in abilities, age, and gender. Universal Design is a design which facilitatedfull range of human diversity. Old city is an area of conservation in Semarang which having open space for communal activities. The purpose of this study is to examine the old city open space (Taman Srigunting and Polder Tawang cases based universal design principles for giving proper directionsto develop better urban environments. The research methods of this study are literature study, site observation and case study, The results of this study are the urgency of integrating universal design into old city and change of urban design paradigm.
