The Attitude of Egyptian Arabic Speakers Towards Standard Arabic and Egyptian Arabic

The specific goal of this research paper is to investigate the language attitude of students in Egypt towards Standard (Fusha) Arabic (SA) and Egyptian (Amiyah) Arabic (EA). The research data was taken from 124 respondents who were all students studying the Arabic language in Egypt.The research data was taken from 124 respondents who were all students studying the Arabic language in Egypt. All the respondents were students at the Suez Canal University in Egypt and consisted of 62 male students and 62 female students. The main instrument used in this research study wasa Discourse Completion Test (DCT), in the form of a questionnaire containing 15 statements that were divided into three sections, namely cognitive, affective, and conative. The findings of the research showed that the language attitude of students in Egypt towards Egyptian Arabic was positivewhile their attitude towards Fusha Arabic was negative. This research is considered important for presenting material related to language policy and for learning more about the development of the Arabic language in Egypt.
