The Impact of Speak-O-Rama Module on Developing Speaking Skills Among Primary Islamic School Children: An Exploratory Study

摘要

This study was on implementing an ESL speaking module namely the Speak-O-Rama, for the primary school level. The module was developed with the Social Constructivism Theory as the foundation, and applied Multiple Intelligences and Krashen’s Moniter Model in designing the moduleactivities for young learners. Four groups of Year 4 (age 10) students from two Islamic integrated schools were selected and the research method employed was the quasi-experimental research with pre and post-tests as well as interviews with the English teachers on the students’ performanceand self-confidence. The data collection process took two months and data findings revealed that the students showed significant improvement in the speaking skills and displayed a gradual change from low self-confidence in the first session to high self-confidence in the last one. It is hopedthat this research data could convince relevant authority of the implementation of this module as reference to improve the speaking skills and proficiency among primary school students.
