AUSTRALIA'S AIRPOWER TEAMING SYSTEM UNVEILED

BOEING REVEALED A full-scale mock-up of its concept for the Airpower Teaming System (ATS) recently at the Australian International Airshow in Avalon. The unmanned air system is being developed by Boeing Autonomous Systems and Boeing's Phantom Works International unit in Australia. The unmanned fighter-like aircraft is designed to operate alongside manned combat and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) and electronic warfare (EW) platforms, augmenting their capabilities at a greatly reduced cost. The design is being developed commercially, but Boeing is partnered with the Royal Australian Air Force and received funding from the Australian government. The ATS will be produced in Australia and marketed worldwide to defense customers and is intended to be tailored flexibly to the needs of export customers. Development of the demonstrator is being carried out under the Loyal Wingman Advanced Development Program. Funding includes $28.5 million over four years from the Australian government and $44 million from Boeing.
