摘要

This paper examines and identifies instructors' competencies in the College of Technological Studies, the Department of Production Engineering (DPE) in Kuwait. The objectives are to examine the influence of instructors' competencies in shaping students knowledge, skills and attitudes in relation to the requirement of the workplace. The study is based on extensive fieldwork that encompassed a review of related literature, questionnaires and personal interviews with the Dean of the College of Technological Study, the Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, selected instructors and students. In addition, meetings were held with selected supervisors in local industry and with those supervising the DPE graduates in Kuwait to seek an insight into views towards the quality of their performance in the workplace. Finally, the paper argues that unless instructors in the Department of Production Engineering have the necessary competencies, the College of Technological Studies will not be able to supply the local market with the required skills, thus increasing the dependence on expatriates for years to come..
