A chemist novelist

I enjoyed the article on chemists who have other interests (Networks, December 2009, p. 40), and would like to suggest that the topic is capable of further exposition. I was familiar with the chemistry background of David Williamson, but did not know that there were chemists involved in the visual arts. I particularly liked the tide of the 'Dead Trees Society'. Ian Rae has occasionally mentioned the extracurricular interests of well-known chemists in his Letter from Melbourne, but, in my memory at least, he did not address the discipline of painting.
