After 20 years (1968-88) of collaboration and research and development between CSIRO and the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA), the world's first polymer banknote was issued in 1988. It coincided with the 200th anniversary of the arrival of the First Fleet. In this book, David Solomon, who made a significant research contribution, and Tom Spurling give an interesting chronological account in 13 chapters of 'from rags to polymers' in banknote technology, punctuated by the constant challenges arising from the meeting of different minds and the evolution of research commercialisation practices.
