Pulmonary acantholytic squamous cell carcinoma with focal signet ring cell morphology mimicking malignant mesothelioma on fine needle aspiration cytology: a case report

Features such as optically dense cytoplasm, endo-ectoplasmic demarcation, occasional intracytoplasmic vacuoles and round nuclei may make the identification of this rare variant of squamous cell carcinoma difficult to identify and to distinguish from epithelioid mesothelioma.
