摘要

Many genera of gram-negative bacteria produce extracellular polysaccharides (EPSs) as possible determinants in colonizing ecological niches. These polysaccharides can be extremely inhibitory to restriction and modifying enzymes (4) and are difficult to separate from DNA samples because they usually co-precipitate with DNA during common isolation procedures. Therefore, the isolation of high quality genomic DNA from EPS-producing gram-negative bacteria for routine molecular manipulations remains a problem for a number of researchers.
