The title compound, [Ca(C_4H_4O_6)].2O, calcium tartratetetrahydrate, is a new triclinic centrosymmetric form identifiedin rat kidney calculus. The crystal structure was determinedfrom powder and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The fourwater molecules belong to one square face of the Ca-atomcoordination (a square antiprism), the four O atoms of thesecond square face coming from two tartrate anions, buildinginfinite chains alternating Ca atom polyhedra and tartrateanions along a, with the chains cross-linked by a network ofhydrogen bonds.
