Then acrylate modified polyurethane (PUA) emulsion was prepared with the homemade acrylate oligomer as modifier. The effects of composition of the monomers in the oligomers, types and dosage of the initiator, and adding mode of the acrylate oligomer when the modified PUA was prepared on the properties of the modified PUA emulsion were investigated. Microstructure and thermal stability of the modified and unmodified PUA were studied by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), polarized light microscopy (PLM) and thermogravimetry (TG). The amount of the residual monomers was tested by gas chromatography (GC). The results show that waterborne PUA with excellent composite properties and extremely low amount of residual monomers can be obtained when the component of the monomers in the oligomers are BA, VAc, HEA and AA, the initiator is azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) whose dosage is 1.17% of total mass of the monomers, meanwhile, the acrylate oligomer and NCO monomer are charged into the mixture at the same time. The modified PUA so prepared has the initial tackiness up to ball number of 13# and the persistent tackiness of 45 minutes, and the emulsion is stable.
