Alberta plans carbon tax on energy-intensive facilities

TORONTO (ICIS)--The government of Canada’s oil-rich Alberta province is set to implement a new industrial carbon pricing policy, with a Canadian dollar (C$) 30/tonne ($23/tonne) carbon tax on large, energy-intensive industrial facilities. Under the “Technology Innovation and Emissions Reduction” (TIER) system introduced late on Tuesday (29 October) by premier (governor) Jason Kenney’s ruling Conservatives, the tax is to take effect on 1 January 2020.
