Primary CNS Natural Killer/T-Cell Lymphoma of the Nasal Type Presenting in a Woman: Case Report and Review of the Literature

Primary CNS natural killer/T-cell lymphoma (NK/TCL) of the nasal type is an extraordinarily rare neoplasm, with only five reported cases to date. AH existing cases have been in men, and a possible sex predilection has been suggested in previous reports. Herein we present a case of primary CNS NK/TCL of the nasal type in a 60-year-old immunocompetent woman. To our knowledge, this is the first case of this neoplasm in any woman or in a patient of African American descent. Case Report A 60-year-old African American woman presented to an outside hospital with acute onset of right-sided weakness and clinical suspicion of acute stroke. An initial computed tomography (CT) scan demonstrated a mass in the left frontal lobe. The patient subsequently was transferred to our institution for higher level care. During admission, the patient's clinical status rapidly declined, with worsening right-sided paralysis and progressive expressive aphasia within 48 hours.
